Chakra in Naruto is a mix of two things: physical energy from the body's cells and spiritual energy from training and experience. Combine them, shape the result with hand seals, and you have a jutsu. That one rule does an enormous amount of load-bearing work. It explains why techniques exhaust people, why children cannot do what adults can, and why the series can keep inventing abilities without breaking its own physics.
The system has layers. Chakra runs along a network of pathways and points that the Hyuga clan can see and shut, which is why gentle fist beats brute force. It has natures too, five of them, fire and wind and lightning and earth and water, arranged in a loop where each defeats one and loses to another. Learning your own nature is a plot beat several characters get to have.
The borrowing is old. Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel, used in Indian traditions for energy centres in the body, and it reached Japanese as チャクラ along the same route that carried a lot of Buddhist vocabulary. Kishimoto took a term readers already half-recognised and handed it a rulebook. Dragon Ball had pulled the same trick with ki a decade earlier.
Spelling CHAKRA
CHAKRA is six letters and only two of them are vowels, which makes the KR in the middle the hard part. Japanese cannot end a syllable on K, so the spoken word is cha-ku-ra, with a U you must not type. Three beats in Japanese, two syllables in English, and one letter missing between them.
