Kaido commands a crew called the Beasts and lives on a fortress island above Wano, and the world's newspapers call him the strongest creature alive. He can become an enormous serpentine dragon of the kind drawn in Japanese and Chinese art rather than European heraldry, and in that shape he flies by producing clouds and standing on them.
The running detail is the death wish. He has been captured, executed and dropped from great heights, and none of it worked, so he goes looking for stronger opponents partly to find out whether anybody can finish the job. It is played as grim comedy: an emperor of the sea stepping off a sky island to see what the ground does about it.
The arc built around him ran for years of weekly chapters and rearranged the top of the world's power structure before it closed. His weapon is a studded kanabo, the club a Japanese ogre carries in folklore, which is the same joke his island's name tells. Onigashima means demon island, from the tale where a boy and three animals sail out and the demons lose.
Spelling KAIDO
KAIDO is five letters opening on a vowel run, K then A then I, which is the half most people get right. The end is the trap. The Japanese is Kaidou, with a long O that English quietly drops, so anyone romanising by ear reaches for a U that will not fit the row. Five letters, two syllables, no doubled consonants.
