Kogoro Mouri
Japan's most celebrated detective solves nothing. He falls asleep in a chair and someone smaller does the talking.

Kogoro Mouri runs a small private investigation office above a coffee shop, drinks more than he should, bets on horses, and idolises a pop idol on television. He is not the detective the newspapers think he is. The child living in his spare room shoots him with a tranquilliser dart, props him in a chair, and lays out the solution in Kogoro's own voice through a bow tie that shifts pitch on a dial.
So the country gets Sleeping Kogoro, a genius who cracks impossible cases in a trance and remembers none of it afterwards. He takes the credit every time and is baffled every time. The joke has one sharp edge: Kogoro is a former police officer, an excellent marksman and a serious judo competitor, and on the rare occasion the boy stays out of it he can work a case properly.
His daughter Ran holds the household together while her parents stay separated but not divorced, her mother Eri being a defence lawyer who wins in court against the police her husband used to work with. The three of them make the show's domestic engine. Aoyama uses Kogoro's caseload as the delivery system for a murder a week, which is how a detective this unlucky ends up at so many crime scenes.
Spelling KOGORO
KOGORO is the given name, so ignore Mouri. Six letters, and the trap is the ending: 小五郎 is ko-go-rou, with a long vowel on the last syllable that a faithful romanisation writes as KOGOROU or KOGORO with a macron. Neither fits. Three O's, one in every other slot, alternating with K, G and R.
