A perfectly ordinary Japanese noun that One Piece readers turned into something close to a creed.

Nakama means people who belong to the same group. Colleagues at a company are nakama. So is anyone on the same team, in the same club, or working the same shift. The word carries no automatic warmth. In everyday Japanese it sits closer to member than to friend, and it appears in contexts as dull as a staff roster.
One Piece changed what English speakers hear in it. Fan translations left the word untranslated, partly because Luffy uses it constantly and partly because friend felt too small for a crew that keeps risking everything for each other. Readers picked it up, and the untranslated version acquired a weight the Japanese does not quite carry on its own.
Official English releases translate it normally, as crew or friends, which annoys a certain kind of reader every single time. The argument underneath is whether a translation should preserve a word a fandom has invested with meaning. Fandom kept its version regardless, and nakama now turns up in discussions of shows with no pirates anywhere in them.
Spelling NAKAMA
NAKAMA is six letters that alternate perfectly: consonant, A, consonant, A, consonant, A. Three A's and nothing else in the vowel column, which makes it one of the easiest rows to finish once a single position is confirmed. 仲間 has no long vowels and no doubled consonants, so what you hear is exactly what you type.
