Nijika Ijichi found Hitori Gotoh sitting in a park in a tracksuit, clutching a guitar case, hours after her own band had lost its guitarist and with a gig already booked. So she asked. Bocchi agreed because refusing would have required more talking. That is the shape of most things Nijika does: she keeps Kessoku Band moving by cheerfully declining to notice objections.
She drums, books the shows, chases the ticket quotas, and mediates between a bassist who lives on almost no money and a singer who cannot yet play the guitar she owns. Her older sister Seika runs STARRY, the live house in Shimokitazawa where the band performs, which is the only reason four high schoolers have a venue. Nijika's ambition is small and stated plainly: fill the room.
In a cast built out of anxiety, poverty and vanity, she is the member with no crisis, and the series works hard to keep that from being dull. The star-shaped pin in her hair is a running visual joke nobody explains. She wants the band to succeed, and she is the only one of the four who does anything about it on a schedule.
Spelling NIJIKA
NIJIKA is written with the characters for rainbow and summer, and once you know that niji means rainbow the first three letters stop being guesswork.
