Rebecca Lee runs the guns for Lagoon Company, a four-person smuggling outfit working out of Roanapur, a port in Thailand where every criminal organisation in Asia keeps a branch office. She grew up poor in New York's Chinatown, got out of it badly, and now delivers cargo by torpedo boat for clients nobody would insure. Her crewmates call her Two Hands, which is a description rather than a compliment.
The pistols are a matched pair of customised Berettas, engraved, fired together, and aimed with very little thought for what stands behind the target. Revy is not a professional in the tidy sense. She drinks through the working day, picks fights she has already won, and treats Rock, the Japanese salaryman her crew kidnapped and then hired, as a problem she resents being unable to solve.
Rei Hiroe began the manga in 2002 in Monthly Sunday Gene-X, and Madhouse animated two twelve-episode seasons in 2006. The show takes its gunfights extremely seriously and its heroes not at all. Revy shoots her way through the first episode and spends the rest of the series being told, patiently and repeatedly, that this is not a personality.
Spelling REVY
Four letters, REVY, short for Rebecca. The Japanese is written with the rare katakana for a V sound, and that syllable romanises just as happily as Levi or Levy, which is how English fans spelled it for years before the official releases settled the matter. The row wants the V, and a Y on the end rather than an I.
