Nico Robin grew up on Ohara, an island of scholars studying poneglyphs, blocks of indestructible stone carrying a record the government has spent centuries suppressing. The government destroyed the island. Robin got out at eight years old with a bounty already attached, and spent the next twenty years moving between criminal organisations, because those were the only groups willing to take her in.
Her fruit lets her sprout copies of her own limbs from any surface she can see: hands out of a wall, arms up a staircase, a whole spine of them stacked to lift something heavy. It is quiet, precise and unpleasant in a way the series never quite lets you forget, since the same technique that opens a door can break a man's back from across a courtyard.
The moment that makes her a Straw Hat is not a fight. It is being asked, in front of an enemy government, to say out loud that she wants to live, after two decades of assuming the answer was no. Oda burned a flag to make the point land. Since then Robin is the crew's historian, its calmest reader of a room, and the source of its most casually horrifying remarks.
Spelling ROBIN
ROBIN is five letters and the game wants the given name rather than NICO. It is an English word and an English bird, so no Japanese trap survives the trip: the kana transliterates straight back. The only thing to watch is the second vowel, an I where a hurried typist puts an E, which costs a row for a word nobody expected to lose one to.
