The detective known only as L works through intermediaries and a gothic letter on a screen. To run the Kira investigation in person he has to become a man in a room, and a man in a room needs something to be called. Ryuzaki is what he gives the task force, and what he gives the student he privately believes is the killer.
He is barefoot, hunched, and eats nothing but sugar, holding his cake fork by the very end of the handle. He crouches on chairs because sitting normally, he claims, drops his reasoning ability. All of it is genuine and all of it also works as cover, since a man this odd is hard to file as the smartest person in the building until he has already won an exchange.
His real name is L Lawliet, and he keeps it back for one very good reason: in this story a written name is a death sentence. Watari raised him, funds him and speaks for him. Aliases are the only reason the world's most wanted investigator can walk into a police headquarters and shake hands.
Spelling RYUZAKI
RYUZAKI is seven letters and the middle one decides the row: Z, not S or J. Fan subtitles sometimes chase the long vowel and write RYUUZAKI, which will never fit. The game wants this alias rather than the single letter L. Three beats, ryu-za-ki, and the tail is ZAKI, the same ending as thousands of Japanese surnames.
