Sanji cooks for the crew and fights with his legs only, on the argument that a chef's hands are for cooking and for nothing else. His techniques are named after cuts of meat and his finishing moves set his own shin on fire, a joke about hot-blooded cooks that Oda commits to completely. He also smokes constantly, which one English dub famously replaced with a lollipop.
The reason he never lets anybody go hungry is eighty-five days on a bare rock with the pirate who lost a leg saving him. Zeff gave the boy all the food, told him the rock had none, and Sanji only found out what that had cost when a ship finally came. He worked in Zeff's floating restaurant from then until the day Luffy walked in and ordered.
The other half of the character is a helpless reaction to any woman in the room, played as a nosebleed and a spiral of hearts, and it is the least gracefully aged element of the series. Underneath it he is the crewmate who notices when somebody has not eaten, on a ship of people who were all hungry once.
Spelling SANJI
SANJI is five letters and the given name; the family name Vinsmoke turns up hundreds of chapters late and the game does not want it. The J is a plain J, san-ji, with nothing to argue about in the kana. The name is a number, san meaning three, which stops looking like a coincidence once the story explains how his siblings were named.
