Senketsu is a sailor uniform sewn from Life Fibers: alive, opinionated, and inclined to argue with the person wearing him. Ryuko's father made him and left him in the basement of the ruined family home. When she bleeds on him he wakes up, and the arrangement they settle into is that she feeds him and he makes her strong enough to survive the next fight.
The relationship is the emotional spine of a show that otherwise runs on volume. He nags. She ignores him. He talks her out of doing something stupid roughly once per arc and fails to about as often. Toshihiko Seki voices him with complete sincerity, which is why a garment offering tactical advice never collapses into being only a joke.
His name is 鮮血, fresh blood. The rival uniform is Junketsu, purity, and the two rhyme on purpose. Kill la Kill is built on that class of joke: the school is a hierarchy of uniforms, the antagonist family runs a clothing empire, and most of the names are puns about thread and fabric pushed to their logical end.
Spelling SENKETSU
SENKETSU is eight letters and finishes on a U you will never hear. Japanese devoices that final vowel here, so the word sounds like Senkets on screen, and players who spell what they heard come up a tile short. There are no long vowels and no doubled letters, so once you put the U back the row is straightforward.
