Shinichi Izumi is an ordinary high schooler with glasses, a crush and no particular ambitions when a parasite tunnels into his right arm during the night. He wakes up with a passenger. Because the two of them share one body, they have to cooperate: the parasite needs him breathing, and he needs the arm that turns into a blade when the others come for him.
The others do come. Parasites that reached their hosts' brains have replaced whole people and eat human beings without giving it much thought. Shinichi is caught between two species and belongs comfortably to neither, and Hitoshi Iwaaki tracks the change in him carefully. He grows calmer, faster and much harder to upset, and the people who love him notice before he does.
Parasyte ran from 1988 to 1995 in Kodansha's magazines, well before the body horror boom it helped feed, and its argument has aged better than most: humans are one species among many, and the things eating us are doing what we do. Madhouse adapted it in 2014, updating the phones and leaving every uncomfortable question exactly where it was.
Spelling SHINICHI
SHINICHI is eight letters and every one of them is common, which makes it harder rather than easier. Three I's, in slots three, five and eight, and two digraphs English borrowed whole: SH at the front, CH near the end. The Japanese 新一 splits neatly into shin and ichi. Split it there and SHINICHI stops being a wall of letters.
