Momonga was the last guild master of Ainz Ooal Gown, sitting in an empty tomb at the end of a dying game, watching the shutdown clock. It passes. The non-player characters start talking to him, he still has the body of an undead overlord, and the world outside the walls turns out to be a real one with real people living in it.
He takes the guild's name as his own, mostly as a beacon. If any of his old friends are also in this world, they will hear about Ainz Ooal Gown and come looking. Everything else he does is improvisation performed with total confidence, because forty devoted subordinates are watching and none of them can be allowed to see him guess.
The undead body edits his feelings too, flattening panic and, more alarmingly, empathy. Overlord is a comedy about middle management and a horror story about what an ordinary office worker does with unlimited power, frequently in the same scene. Kugane Maruyama posted it as a web novel before Enterbrain printed it from 2012, and Madhouse animated it in 2015.
Spelling AINZ
AINZ is four letters ending in Z, and a Z is rare enough that landing it usually finishes the row by itself. The AI at the front is two vowels read separately rather than the English long I. Watch out for AINS, since the Z comes from the guild name he inherited and not from any English word you can lean on.
