Albedo runs the floor guardians of the Great Tomb of Nazarick: a succubus in a white gown, black wings, black horns, carrying a bardiche taller than she is. Her creator gave her a personality file that ended by calling her frigid. On the last night before the servers closed, Momonga opened that file and replaced the line with a declaration of love, purely because nobody was watching.
The next morning the joke has legal force. Albedo is the most competent administrator in the tomb and hopelessly, publicly devoted to a skeleton who cannot reciprocate and dare not admit what he did. Overlord gets a lot of comedy out of this and rather more unease, since it is the clearest picture the series ever gives of what these characters actually are.
She is genuinely dangerous with it. Her defensive statistics are the highest in Nazarick, her jealousy counts as a security risk, and her sisters Nigredo and Rubedo get handled with the care you would give unexploded ordnance. Everyone inside the tomb behaves impeccably. Nobody inside the tomb is safe.
Spelling ALBEDO
ALBEDO is a real word before it is a name: the fraction of light a surface reflects, from the Latin for whiteness, which is why she wears white. Her sisters are Nigredo and Rubedo, the blackening and the reddening, two more stages of alchemy. Six letters, three vowels in the odd positions, and the middle E is the one people write as an I.
