Aqua's job used to be sending dead Japanese people on to their next life. She was good at the paperwork and unbearable at the interviews, and one of the dead she processed dragged her down into the fantasy world she was recruiting for. Now she is stuck in it as an Archpriest, in a party of four, unable to go home until somebody kills the Demon King.
The frustrating thing is that she is not weak. Her purification magic annihilates undead outright, she can resurrect a dead party member, and she produces clean water on demand, which in a medieval town is worth more than most spells. She simply cannot be trusted with a decision, a purse or a monster she has personally insulted. Her party spends most of its earnings undoing things she has already done.
Natsume Akatsuki started KonoSuba as a free web serial in 2012 and Kadokawa printed it from 2013. Studio Deen animated it in 2016 with deliberately loose, elastic character art, and Aqua's crying face became the show's signature image because she does it in roughly every episode.
Spelling AQUA
AQUA is four letters and Q is the tile that ends the puzzle the moment it appears. English has almost no other word shape it could be. Q pulls U after it, the word opens and closes on A, and the whole row is two consonants and three vowel slots. Japanese writes アクア, a-ku-a, three beats, which is why the name sounds less like the Latin word than you expect.
