Megumin is an Arch Wizard of the Crimson Demon clan, a village of powerful mages who all have red eyes, invented names and an incurable taste for dramatic poses. She could have learned advanced magic in any school. She poured every skill point into Explosion, a spell so expensive that casting it once drains her to zero mana and leaves her lying face down in the dirt until someone carries her home.
This makes her useless in a dungeon, where the ceiling matters, and unbeatable in an open field once per day. Her party works around it. Kazuma has spent much of the series hauling her back on his shoulders while she recites her own introduction from the ground, and she has spent it insisting that the constraint is a philosophy rather than a mistake.
The character became the face of KonoSuba almost immediately, hat, eyepatch, staff and all, and Kadokawa gave her a prequel light novel series of her own. The eyepatch is not covering an injury. It is there because it looks right, which is the most honest thing anyone in the show has said about themselves.
Spelling MEGUMIN
MEGUMIN is seven letters ending on a consonant, which is rare for a name of this kind and makes the last tile the tell. The root is megumi, a common Japanese given name meaning blessing, with an N stuck on the end because she thought it sounded stronger. Two M's, at positions one and five, and the G is hard. No long vowels to trim.
