Brock runs the Pewter City gym, the first one in the game, and the first real wall for anyone who picked Charmander. Rock types, a Geodude and an Onix, and a boy who inherited the whole operation after his father left and his mother followed. He raised ten siblings on his own. When his father comes back, Brock hands over the gym and walks out of town with Ash inside an episode.
On the road he becomes the reason the group survives. He cooks, he reads the map, he knows which berries help a poisoned Pokemon, and he explains type matchups to a hero who never learns them. He also falls in love with roughly every Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny he meets, and gets removed from the scene by the ear each time.
In Japanese he is Takeshi, a perfectly ordinary name. The English localisation went a different way with the gym leaders and named several of them after what they throw at you, which is why the rock specialist and the water specialist ended up with the names they have.
Spelling BROCK
BROCK is five letters, a hard CK ending and one consonant cluster at the front, which makes it among the cheapest rows in the Pokemon set once a single letter lands. The catch is that the Japanese name is Takeshi and shares nothing with it, so hearing the show in Japanese helps you not at all. Spell the type rather than the sound: BROCK, with the C before the K.
