Caster is the magic class, and by the raw numbers it is the worst servant to draw. Low strength, low endurance, no armour worth the name. What it has is time. A caster left alone builds a territory, a workshop that bends the local rules in her favour, and inside it she can fight things that would flatten her in an open street.
The one in Fate/stay night is Medea, summoned out of the Argonaut legend and unwilling to lose twice. She takes a temple as her base, drains the city for mana, and runs the most patient campaign of the war. Fate/Zero hands the slot to Gilles de Rais instead, which turns the class from calculating into something considerably worse.
The class exists to break the war's shape. Every other servant answers a question about swords. Caster answers a question about preparation, and the answer is usually that whoever prepared has already won. Nasu keeps giving the slot to characters carrying grudges older than the city they are standing in.
Spelling CASTER
CASTER is six letters and the trap is English rather than Japanese. CASTOR with an O is a real word, a beaver, a wheel, an oil, and it looks perfectly plausible in a row of tiles. The Fate class is CASTER with an E, matching ARCHER, LANCER and RIDER. The katakana キャスター adds nothing to worry about.
