Celty is a dullahan, a figure from Irish folklore who rides ahead of a death carrying her own head. Hers was stolen while she slept, and she followed the trail to Tokyo about twenty years before the story opens. Without the head she has no memory of her past life, no voice, and no face, so she talks by typing on a phone and holding the screen up, which produces some of the driest conversations in the series.
She works as a courier, moving whatever a client will pay to move and asking little about it. Her horse came with her and now takes the shape of a black motorcycle with no headlight and no plate, whinnying at traffic lights. Locals call her the Black Rider and treat her as an urban legend. She lives with an underground doctor who is in love with her and entirely unbothered by the missing head.
Ryohgo Narita wrote the light novels from 2004, the same author as Baccano, and Brain's Base animated the first series in 2010. Celty holds the sprawling cast together: almost every plot thread in Ikebukuro passes through a delivery she was hired for.
Spelling CELTY
CELTY is five letters and starts with a soft C, so it sounds like an S and cannot be typed like one. セルティ is Se-ru-ti, with a vowel between the L sound and the T that English removes. The ending is Y rather than IE or EY, which is the other place guesses go. Her surname, Sturluson, is Icelandic and not what the game wants.
