Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV tracks the Bebop down from Earth and joins the crew partway through the series, mostly because she felt like it. She is barefoot, roughly thirteen, and one of the best hackers alive. She talks about herself in the third person, sings her own narration, and sleeps in positions that suggest an absence of spine.
Ed is a girl, a fact the show mentions once and then leaves alone. The animators built her behaviour on Yoko Kanno, the series composer, whose conduct in the studio apparently supplied more than the score. Melissa Fahn plays her in the English dub, keeping pace with animation that never gives the character a still frame to rest in.
She arrives with a laptop, a goggle-eyed grin and an instant alliance with Ein, the data dog the crew already had, and she treats bounty hunting as a game with better graphics than most. Jet and Spike tolerate her because she is useful, then because she is theirs. Her sessions are the lightest in a series that otherwise spends most of its running time on regret.
