Gabimaru was raised in the ninja village of Iwagakure to feel nothing, which he managed well enough to earn the nickname the Hollow. Then the village married him to the chief's daughter, expecting the tie to make him obedient, and it made him fond of her instead. He tried to leave. The executions began, and none of them took.
The shogunate offers him a pardon on one condition: sail to an island in the far west and bring back an elixir of immortality. The island is beautiful, full of flowers, and everything on it kills. Other condemned criminals go with him, each shadowed by an executioner from the Yamada Asaemon line, and most of them do not come back.
His strength has a source he can name. Thinking about his wife is what holds him together, and the story is honest that a man built to be empty is running on the one attachment he was never supposed to form. Yuji Kaku serialized Hell's Paradise on Shonen Jump Plus from 2018 to 2021, and MAPPA animated it in 2023.
Spelling GABIMARU
GABIMARU is eight letters ending in one of the oldest suffixes in Japanese naming: maru, written with the character for circle. It closed boys' names for centuries and still names ships. Land MARU and the row is half finished. The risk sits at the front, which is GABI with a hard G and a single B, never GABBI, and the whole name runs in four flat beats with no long vowels to lose.
