Ichigo Kurosaki has seen ghosts his whole life and treats them as an ordinary nuisance until a Hollow follows one into his house. Rukia Kuchiki, the Soul Reaper sent to handle it, gets hurt and offers him half her power. He takes all of it instead, which is the accident the rest of Bleach runs on. Overnight he is a substitute Soul Reaper with a sword taller than he is and no training whatsoever.
He is a bad fit for the job in useful ways. He scowls constantly, fights people he is not supposed to fight, and refuses to accept that some rescues are impossible, most notably when he walks into the Soul Society to stop Rukia's execution with four friends and no plan. His stated reason for every escalation is the same one every time: he wants to be the one standing in front of someone else.
Tite Kubo began the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2001 and finished in 2016 at 74 volumes, with Studio Pierrot animating the long-running television version from 2004. Ichigo's design, orange hair and black robes against white backgrounds, is why so much Bleach art works in two colours.
Spelling ICHIGO
The game wants the given name, ICHIGO, rather than Kurosaki. The kanji 一護 read as one and protect, which is the pun the series keeps cashing in, and it sounds identical to 苺, strawberry. Spelling trouble is the CH: ichi is a single kana, ち, and English ears often want ITCHIGO or ICHEGO. Six letters, alternating vowels and consonants, no doubled anything.
