Jiren belongs to the Pride Troopers, a squad of law enforcers from Universe 11 who wear matching suits and take the work seriously. In the Tournament of Power, where eight universes fight and the losers are erased, he is the reason Universe 7 is not simply expected to lose. He does not chase anyone. He waits, and when he does move, the fights that other characters need whole episodes for are finished in a gesture.
The backstory explains the stillness. A villain killed his family and his master when he was a child, his surviving comrades abandoned him, and he concluded that strength alone is trustworthy and companionship is a weakness that gets people killed. That is a strange position in Dragon Ball, a series whose hero improves mainly by borrowing power and stubbornness from other people, and the arc is built to argue with it.
He arrived in 2017, in the last stretch of Dragon Ball Super's television run, and became the yardstick fans use for the show's power scale. His universe's names run on household appliances, a habit of Toriyama's that puts Jiren somewhere near renji, the Japanese for a stove or range.
Spelling JIREN
JIREN is five letters and the J is what makes it findable. Japanese has no letter J, so ジレン could reasonably be written with a G by someone guessing at the sound, but the accepted spelling is JIREN. No doubled letters, no long vowel trimmed, one syllable break between the I and the R. If the J lands green, the row is close to solved.
