Laios takes his party back down into the dungeon with no money at all, which is how the cooking starts. Selling gear pays for nothing, rations weigh too much, and the floors are full of edible things that every other adventurer steps over. His answer is monster stew. The party has to keep descending because his sister Falin was swallowed by a red dragon, and dragons digest slowly enough to leave a window.
The eating is cover for something stranger. Laios has wanted to be a monster since childhood, reads their anatomy the way other people read maps, and lights up in front of a walking mushroom in a way his companions find alarming. Senshi the dwarf supplies technique. Marcille supplies horror. Chilchuck asks who is paying for any of it. The four of them argue their way down through recipes.
Ryoko Kui ran Dungeon Meshi in Harta from 2014 to 2023, and Studio Trigger animated the first season in 2024. The joke underneath is structural: every fantasy game already lists monster parts as ingredients, and this one takes the list at its word. The cooking works because the biology holds up. Laios is a poor negotiator, an anxious leader, and a genuinely good zoologist.
Spelling LAIOS
The game wants the given name, LAIOS, and leaves the family name Touden off the board. Five letters, and three of them are a vowel run: A, I and O in a row, so one confirmed vowel usually drags the other two along with it. The name is spelled the way a Western fantasy novel would spell it rather than the way Japanese romanization would, which is the point of it.
