Leafa belongs to the Sylph race in ALfheim Online, a fairy game where everyone can fly and the races spend their time fighting each other about it. She is fast, green-haired, and better with a two-handed sword than most players twice her level, because the girl behind the avatar has been doing kendo since childhood.
She meets a player who has no idea how flight controls work and volunteers to take him to the world tree, which sits at the centre of the map and has never been cleared. The journey is the arc's spine. The joke the audience is in on, and neither of them is, is that they already know each other extremely well.
The fairy world is a deliberate reset after the first arc. Nobody dies for real, the stakes move to something happening outside the game, and the story gets to spend time on flying, racial politics and a quest structure rather than survival. Leafa is the character who makes that world feel lived in.
Spelling LEAFA
LEAFA is five letters and hides an English word: leaf, plus an A. That is the fastest way to hold it. The Japanese katakana has no L, so it reads closer to Riifa, and transliterating by ear gives RIFA or LIFA rather than the official spelling. The EA pair is the part guesses get wrong.
