Obito Uchiha shows up first as a flashback: goggles, a habit of stopping to help people, and a Sharingan that arrives embarrassingly late by clan standards. His squad is Minato's, with Kakashi and Rin, and the two boys spend their screen time arguing about whether the rules or the teammates matter more. A mission in the Third War settles it in the worst available way.
Crushed under rock and out of time, he has his left eye removed and given to Kakashi, who had just lost his own. That eye is the Sharingan Kakashi carries for the rest of the series, and the reason he keeps repeating a line about abandoning teammates. The graveside visits, the permanent lateness, the invented excuses: all of it dates from that day.
Kishimoto returns to Obito much later and reframes an enormous amount of the story around him, which is either the best or the most divisive move in the manga depending on which forum you read. The goggles are the giveaway. Once you notice how often the artwork puts them in frame, the setup stops looking like an accident.
Spelling OBITO
OBITO is five letters with an O at each end, and the anagram is the fun part: drop one O and the rest spells TOBI, the masked name attached to the same character. Three beats, o-bi-to. Nothing is dropped or doubled in the romanisation, so OBITO is one of the rare Naruto rows that behaves exactly as it sounds.
