Rintaro Okabe calls himself Hououin Kyouma, mad scientist, and performs the whole thing in public: the lab coat, the fake phone calls to an unnamed organisation, the laugh. It is an act assembled by a teenager to make himself interesting, and the two people who know him best have quietly agreed to let it keep running.
His lab, three members and a rented room in Akihabara, is supposed to be building novelty gadgets. One of them, a microwave wired to a mobile phone, turns out to send text messages into the past. Small changes back there produce a different present, and Okabe is the only person who remembers the version that got overwritten, a condition he names Reading Steiner.
That memory is the whole problem. He can change the world and cannot show anyone what it looked like before, so every consequence is his alone to carry, and the act stops being funny at a precise and well-chosen moment. The 2011 anime is slow for eleven episodes on purpose. Then it collects on all of them.
Spelling OKABE
OKABE is five letters and the game wants the family name rather than RINTARO. That final E is a full vowel, o-ka-be, never silent the way an English reader expects, so do not reach for OKABI or OKABEE. Three vowels across five tiles, alternating with the K and the B, and there is no long vowel anywhere in it.
