Raditz

Raditz lands in a field, scans the area, and tells a grown man with a wife and child that his real name is Kakarot, that he was shipped to Earth as an infant to exterminate everyone on it, and that he has been extremely bad at his job. It is the most efficient exposition in the series. Three pages in, the story has stopped being about a boy who trains hard and started being about a survivor of a species someone else wiped out.

As a fighter he is nothing special by Saiyan standards, a low-class warrior who scouts planets and takes the easy ones. He is still far beyond anything Earth has produced, which is why the fight is settled by two enemies working together and a decision neither of them can take back. He also kidnaps a child and locks him in a space pod, which is how Gohan's power gets discovered.

The vegetable naming holds here too. Raditz is a radish, his brother is a carrot, and the prince he answers to is named after the word vegetable itself. The whole Saiyan race is one long grocery joke, played straight by characters who have never once acknowledged it and never will.
