Rize Kamishiro is a ghoul who hunts openly and often, moves districts when the pressure rises, and treats other ghouls' territorial rules as somebody else's problem. She is also a serious reader, which is how she ends up in a bookshop opposite Kaneki, sharing a favourite author and arranging a date. She is not pretending to like the books. She is pretending about everything else.
The date ends under a construction site with steel beams on both of them, which is where the series actually begins. Her rinkaku kagune, her organs and her appetite are transplanted into the boy she was about to eat, and Rize spends much of the rest of the story inside his head as a hallucination, arguing with him and enjoying it.
Ishida gives her very little screen time as herself and enormous weight anyway. Everything Kaneki becomes runs through organs he did not ask for, and the hunger he fights is hers before it is his. The purple hair, the glasses and the wide contented smile turn up on merchandise constantly, which is a strange fate for a character whose function is appetite.
Spelling RIZE
RIZE is four letters read as two beats, ri-ze, so the final E is pronounced and the word does not rhyme with rise. The Z is a real Z in Japanese, not an S dressed up. Four tiles, two of them vowels, and the family name Kamishiro is not what the game is asking for. RIZE ends on a sound, not on silence.
