Sasuke Uchiha was seven when his brother killed the rest of his family, and the story hands him one instruction to carry out of that night: get strong enough to do something about it. Everything else, the top marks at the academy, the crowd of admirers, the flat refusal to be impressed by anybody, sits on top of that. Team 7 gets a boy who already knows what he is for.
The Sharingan runs in his blood and sharpens under pressure, letting him read movement, copy technique and eventually cast illusions with a look. Kakashi teaches him the Chidori. Orochimaru offers him more and faster, in exchange for a body he intends to use later, and Sasuke takes that deal with his eyes open. Leaving the village is the first genuinely bleak turn the series makes.
His fight with Naruto at the Valley of the End closes Part I and restages the founders' duel beneath the same two statues. Kishimoto named him after Sarutobi Sasuke, a ninja out of Japanese folk stories about the Sanada Ten Braves, and pulled a good deal of the surrounding cast off the same shelf.
Spelling SASUKE
SASUKE is six letters and the final E is what catches people, since Japanese sounds it: sa-su-ke, three beats. It is also the name of a Japanese obstacle-course show that reached English television as Ninja Warrior. The game wants the given name rather than UCHIHA, and the two S's sit on tiles one and three.
