Subaru Natsuki
He is buying snacks at a convenience store, then he is in a fantasy city, and then he dies for the first time.

Subaru Natsuki arrives in another world with the confidence of somebody who has read a great deal of fiction about arriving in other worlds. He expects a cheat ability and receives one: Return by Death. When he dies, time rewinds to a checkpoint and he keeps every memory of whatever killed him. Nobody else keeps anything at all.
That is the cruelty in the gift. He cannot tell anyone about the loops, the series enforces the rule with real menace, and so the knowledge that keeps him alive also isolates him completely. Re:Zero spends much of its first season dismantling the confident isekai protagonist he believes he is, and the dismantling is thorough enough that some viewers stop watching.
Yusuke Kobayashi voices him, and the performance is why the worst scenes land: long stretches of panic, exhaustion and bargaining that most shows would cut for pace. Subaru is helpful, loud and frequently wrong about what the people around him actually need, and the story is honest that trying hard is not the same thing as being useful.
Spelling SUBARU
SUBARU is six letters and a word you may already know: it is the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster, which is why the car company puts six stars on its badge. The game wants the given name rather than Natsuki, his family name. Consonant and vowel alternate, su-ba-ru, with two U's and an A between them.
