Arthur Boyle joined Special Fire Force Company 8 on the same day as Shinra and has never once admitted that firefighting is the job. He is a knight of the round table, the room is his castle, and everyone present gets addressed accordingly. His weapon is a plasma sword he calls Excalibur, generated by his own ignition ability and shaped entirely by what he believes it to be.
That belief is measurable. The stronger the delusion, the hotter and longer the blade burns, so his power climbs when he casts an opponent as a villain in his private story and collapses the moment reality interrupts. Fire Force plays this for laughs for a long time. It also keeps quietly letting him win fights nobody else in the company could have taken.
Atsushi Ohkubo wrote the manga in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2015 to 2022, after finishing Soul Eater, and David Production animated it from 2019. Arthur is the character type Ohkubo has always enjoyed drawing: an idiot with an unreasonable amount of talent, held one step short of useful by his own imagination.
Spelling ARTHUR
ARTHUR is the English name Arthur, six letters, carrying a TH that Japanese has no sound for. The Japanese pronunciation lands closer to Aasaa, so hearing the name spoken in either language tells you almost nothing about the tiles. Remember that he means the king and spell it the English way: A, R, T, H, U, R, with the U before that final R.
