Connie Springer came out of Ragako, a small village in the south, and enlisted with no plan beyond getting away from it. He finished eighth in the 104th, which surprises anyone who has heard him talk. The vertical gear suits him exactly. He reads the swing of a building and the angle of a hook without thinking about it, and thinking is not where his talents live.
He and Sasha form the comic double act the early series badly needs, most of it built around food and bad ideas. The show lets that run for a season and change before it collects the bill. What happens to Ragako is the moment Attack on Titan stops keeping any character safe on the grounds of being funny, and Connie's face in that sequence carries the whole thing.
Wit Studio animated the first three seasons from 2013 and MAPPA took over for the final arc, with the cadets of the 104th running through both. Connie's class rank is the joke that keeps paying out. He is genuinely one of the better soldiers in that year group, and nobody, including Connie, has ever entirely believed it.
Spelling CONNIE
CONNIE is six letters with a double N, and the ending is the trap. English offers both Connie and Conny, while the Japanese reads Konii, a hard K with a stretched final vowel and no doubled consonant anywhere. Two of those three spellings lose you the row. Take the English one, keep both N's, and finish on the E.
