Crona was brought up by the witch Medusa as an experiment. The black blood in those veins hardens on command, and the demon sword Ragnarok lives inside the body, surfacing to complain, bully and eat. Crona speaks almost entirely in apologies and cannot work out how to deal with anything, a phrase repeated so often it became the show's most quoted line.
The Death Weapon Meister Academy sends students after Crona early, and that fight goes badly for the students, because black blood closes wounds and spreads madness. What follows is the nearest thing Soul Eater has to an argument: whether a person assembled as a weapon by their own parent can be taken back afterwards. Maka's answer is simply to keep turning up.
Atsushi Ohkubo drew the manga for Monthly Shonen Gangan from 2004 to 2013, and Bones animated fifty-one episodes in 2008 that break away from the manga near the end. Crona's gender is never settled in either version. The Japanese dodges the pronoun, the English releases have gone both ways, and readers have been arguing about it ever since.
Spelling CRONA
CRONA is five letters and there is no H in it. The Japanese katakana supports either reading, and some translations and dub material wrote it Chrona, so both spellings are in wide circulation online. The printed English manga uses Crona, and that is what the tiles want. Five letters, no repeats, a single vowel pair to place.
