Falco Grice trains as a Marleyan warrior candidate, which means competing against children he grew up with for the right to inherit a titan and a very short life. He is quick, decent and obviously unsuited to the work. He wants to win the honour mostly so that Gabi will not have to take it, which tells you how he weighs almost everything.
The hospitalised soldier he runs errands for is a bearded man with a missing leg and no interest in discussing the war. Falco carries his letters and does not read them. The audience spends several episodes ahead of him on exactly who the man is, and the show holds that gap open for as long as it can stand to.
The Marley arc, which opens the fourth season, moves the camera across the sea and asks the audience to sit in a trench with children in uniform on the wrong side. MAPPA animated it from 2020 after Wit Studio's three seasons, and Falco is a large part of why it lands. He is eleven, he is gentle, and the story has already told you what it does with people like that.
Spelling FALCO
FALCO is five letters, no doubled consonants, and the Latin word for falcon sitting there unaltered. The Japanese reads Faruko, with a U slotted between the L and the C because Japanese syllables cannot end on that L. English throws the U away. The C is hard, so if your ear supplied a K somewhere in the middle, swap it back before you commit the row.
