Genos is nineteen, made almost entirely of metal, and burning through the last of a revenge plan. Four years before the story starts, a mad cyborg destroyed his town and everyone in it. A scientist rebuilt what was left of him, and he has been upgrading himself towards a fight he cannot find ever since, in a body he keeps having to replace.
Then Saitama saves him from a mosquito swarm and Genos asks to become his disciple. He moves in. He writes down everything the bald man says, including the regimen of a hundred push-ups, a hundred sit-ups, a hundred squats and a ten kilometre run every day, which is genuinely how Saitama got strong and is useless advice for anybody else alive.
The joke runs both ways. Genos is an S-Class hero, one of the most powerful people in the Hero Association, and he is repeatedly torn apart by things Saitama swats without looking. He is rebuilt after nearly every fight, apologises for the damage, and requests more armament. His faith never wavers, which makes him the straight man in a comedy with one punchline.
Spelling GENOS
GENOS is five letters and opens on a soft G, the sound in gene rather than the one in get. Japanese ジェノス, jenosu, spells that out with a J and adds a vowel on the end that English drops. The finish is the trap: one S, no doubling, no U. Two vowels around a single N, and GENOS is done.
