Suguru Geto's technique is Cursed Spirit Manipulation. He captures a curse, compresses it into a small dark sphere, and swallows the sphere, after which the spirit answers to him for good. The manga is clear that the taste is appalling and that he does it anyway, hundreds of times, until he commands an army he can call out one by one.
He and Gojo were classmates and the school's strongest pair, sent out together on jobs no other students could survive. Geto believed the work protected people. He then spent a year watching what non-sorcerers do with sorcerers who protect them, and arrived at a conclusion the series treats as monstrous and coherent at once. Their friendship does not survive the disagreement.
Akutami wrote the split as backstory before showing it, so readers meet the outcome first and the reason second, in the Hidden Inventory arc that MAPPA animated in 2023. That structure is the point. Geto is introduced as a villain and then made retroactively difficult to dismiss as one.
Spelling GETO
The family name uses two kanji that would normally be read a different way, and the second syllable carries a long O, so careful romanisation gives GETOU. The tiles drop it: GETO, four letters, two vowels, an E and an O in the even slots. The given name Suguru is not the answer here, and neither is the version with the extra U.
