Kento Nanami graduated from Jujutsu High, decided the work was pointless, and spent four years in an office in a well-cut suit. He came back because trading securities turned out to be pointless in the same way, only with worse hours. He now treats curse-fighting as a job: clock in, complete the task, clock out, and complain in writing about overtime.
His technique is arithmetic. The Ratio Technique marks a weak point at seven-tenths along a target's body, and his blade, a blunt cleaver with no edge worth the name, lands there. Against an opponent whose weak point already exists, the effect stacks. He is a grade one sorcerer who talks like a middle manager and hits like a demolition contractor.
Yuji ends up in his care for part of the series, and Nanami's teaching is a short list of practical rules delivered without warmth. He is popular with readers for the same reason he is unusual in the cast: he is a working adult who finds the whole system indefensible and turns up anyway.
Spelling NANAMI
NANAMI is the family name, not the given name Kento, and it is written with the characters for seven and sea. That seven is worth remembering, because his technique cuts at a seven-to-three ratio. Six letters, N-A-N-A-M-I, with the first four alternating in a pair that repeats. Miscount the A's and you get NANMI, which fits nothing.
