Himeno works Tokyo Public Safety as a devil hunter and has outlived every buddy the division has given her. She smokes, drinks hard, and treats the newest one, Aki Hayakawa, with a mixture of flirtation and worry that is mostly worry. The eyepatch is a receipt. She gave the eye to the Ghost Devil, and it gave her the use of a pair of hands nobody can see.
Contracts in Chainsaw Man run on payment, and the price is always a piece of the hunter. Fujimoto keeps the accounting visible: an eye here, years of a lifespan there, and everyone who fights well has already sold something. Himeno's ghost hands can crush a body at a distance, and what it costs to use them properly is the plainest demonstration in the series of how that economy works.
She matters more than her page count suggests because she is the closest thing the series has to a veteran who never got promoted. She knows the job, does it competently, and holds no illusions about what happens next. When the manga wants a reader to understand that being good at this work is not protection, it uses her to say so.
Spelling HIMENO
HIMENO is six letters and no surname is in play, since she goes by the one name. The first half is hime, the ordinary Japanese word for princess, which is where the spelling clicks for most people. E in the middle, O on the end, every letter appearing exactly once. No trap here, just a word you have to hear correctly.
