Toge Inumaki inherited Cursed Speech, a technique of the Inumaki family that turns plain words into orders. Tell someone to stop and their body stops. Tell them to explode and the sentence carries out. There is no volume control on it and no way to unsay anything, so he restricts his everyday vocabulary to rice ball ingredients and lets tone do the rest.
It works better than it should. Salmon means yes, or hello, or approximately anything, and bonito flakes covers refusal and alarm. His classmates read him without difficulty, and the show gets a great deal of comedy out of a second-year special-grade student holding a full conversation using four fillings and a collar pulled up to his nose.
The cost lands on his throat. Heavy use tears it, and he ends fights coughing blood, which is a limit the story enforces rather than mentions. He wears a uniform zipped high with the snake and fangs markings on his mouth, and he is the reason a joke about lunch is also a description of a weapon.
Spelling INUMAKI
INUMAKI is seven letters and it starts with a gift: inu means dog, and the family name is dog plus coil. Get the first three letters and the rest is a short slide. Three of the seven letters are I, U and A, in that order, with the second I closing the word. The row wants the family name; his given name, Toge, means thorn.
