Jessie, James and a talking Meowth have been trying to steal the same Pikachu since 1997. They announce themselves in verse first, which gives everyone present time to prepare, and they leave by being launched over the horizon. The balloon is shaped like the cat. The disguises fool a hero who has met them roughly four hundred times.
The show occasionally stops laughing at her. Jessie grew up poor, lost her mother to a mission that never came back, and washed out of nursing school and a training academy before Team Rocket took her. She has also competed seriously in Pokemon Contests under a thin alias, and won, which the writers let her keep.
The naming is a double joke across two languages. In Japanese the pair are Musashi and Kojiro, after the swordsmen Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro, who fought the most famous duel in the country's history. In English they became Jessie and James, after the American outlaw.
Spelling JESSIE
JESSIE is six letters with a doubled S and an IE ending, and the ending is the trap. Not JESSY, not JESSI, and not the longer women's name it looks like a shortening of. The English localisation named the pair after Jesse James and respelled the front half for a woman. Her Japanese name is Musashi, which shares no letters with the answer at all.
