Kanao Tsuyuri survived her childhood by switching herself off. When the Kocho sisters bought her freedom and took her in, she had stopped making choices altogether, so Kanae gave her a coin and told her to let it decide. Years later she is one of the corps' best swordswomen and still tossing it, because deciding by heads or tails is easier than admitting she has a preference.
Her eyes do the work her voice will not. Kanao has extraordinary vision, sharp enough to read the twitch of a muscle before it becomes a movement, and Flower Breathing's final form pushes it further at the cost of the eye itself. She trained under Shinobu at the Butterfly Estate, which means she is also one of the few slayers who can treat the injuries she causes.
Tanjiro tells her, early and without ceremony, that the coin is not required and her heart already knows the answer. It is a small scene in a long series and it turns out to be the whole of her arc. By the last act she is choosing out loud, which for this character costs more than any fight.
Spelling KANAO
KANAO is five letters ending on a vowel pair, and the AO at the tail is the part people fumble, since English rarely runs those two together outside of loanwords. Say it in three beats, ka-na-o, one sound per kana. Otakana wants the given name; Tsuyuri would need a TSU, which is another problem entirely.
