Kohaku is the strongest fighter in Ishigami Village and knows it, which saves everyone a lot of argument. Her sister Ruri is the priestess, sick for years, and most of what Kohaku does traces back to keeping her alive. She carries a stone knife, moves faster than anyone can track, and throws grown men without changing expression. Senku she treats as cargo worth protecting.
The alliance between them is a straight trade. She cannot read a formula and does not pretend to care. She can carry equipment up a cliff, scout a camp, and hold a line long enough for the chemistry to arrive. Dr. Stone is unusual among science stories in taking muscle seriously: the periodic table gets you nowhere without someone willing to haul the ore.
Boichi draws her with an athlete's build rather than a decorative one, and her fights are staged as problems of leverage and reach. When the science kingdom finally makes the drug that treats Ruri, Kohaku has already spent a dozen chapters fetching the ingredients that went into it.
Spelling KOHAKU
KOHAKU is the Japanese word for amber, and the spelling runs exactly as the Japanese does. Ko-ha-ku, three even beats, consonant then vowel the whole way, nothing dropped and nothing added in translation. Six letters, three of them vowels, alternating. There is no trap here at all. If you can hear the word you can spell it, which happens less often in this game than you would hope.
