The premise is a green flash that turns every human on Earth to stone. Senku wakes up 3700 years later because he counted the seconds through all of it, which tells you most of what you need about him. Civilization is gone. The plan he announces is to rebuild it from the bottom, and the manga then actually does the bottom: rope, fire, charcoal, iron, glass, sulfa drugs, in that order, with the working shown.
His genius is not secret knowledge, it is process. He explains every step to whoever is holding the bellows, which is why the Kingdom of Science grows a craftsman, a fighter, a mineral collector and a mentalist rather than a research staff. Taiju hauls, Chrome scouts, Kaseki builds the things nobody else has hands for. Senku mostly writes the recipe and refuses to be impressed by anything.
Riichiro Inagaki, who wrote Eyeshield 21, scripted it, and Boichi, who drew Sun-Ken Rock, did the art. Weekly Shonen Jump ran it from 2017 to 2022, and TMS started the anime in 2019. Between them they made a shonen series whose fight scenes are frequently about kilns.
Spelling SENKU
SENKU is the given name, and Ishigami stays off the tiles. The Japanese is written with the characters for thousand and sky, and that second one carries a long vowel, so a careful romanization gives you Senkuu or the version with a bar over the U. English print drops it. Five letters, one U, no doubles. Ishigami means stone god, which for a boy who woke out of a statue is a joke set up in advance.
