Muzan Kibutsuji was a dying man in the Heian period whose doctor tried an experimental medicine on him. It worked, in the worst way. He stopped dying, stopped ageing, and started burning in sunlight, and he has spent over a thousand years looking for a cure while turning humans into demons in the hope that one of them solves the problem for him.
He is the most powerful creature in the series and also its biggest coward. Muzan avoids fights, kills subordinates for a tone of voice, and rearranges his own organs faster than a blade can find them. When the corps hunts him he adopts a wife and daughter and walks the streets of Tokyo in a hat and a nice suit, because nobody looks twice at a man out with his family.
The whole plot hangs off two things he wants: sunlight, and Nezuko, who survived it. That is why a charcoal seller's family was attacked at all. Gotouge keeps him offstage for long stretches, which makes the brief appearances land, and gives the corps a target who is genuinely difficult to find rather than merely difficult to beat.
Spelling MUZAN
MUZAN is five letters and the Z carries it. Very few answers in the set use one, so hitting it early narrows what is left more than any vowel will. The name is 鬼舞辻無惨, and the second half, 無惨, means something close to pitiless or cruel, which is a description rather than a name. Otakana wants the given name.
