Nezuko Kamado was turned on the night her family was killed, and she should have woken up hungry. Instead she recognised her brother and stopped. Demons in this world run on human flesh, so her substitute is sleep: she can rest for days at a stretch and come back stronger, which is why she rides in a wooden box through daylight and fights at night.
The bamboo muzzle came from Giyu Tomioka, jammed in her mouth to stop her biting, and it stayed because the image is perfect. She shrinks to the size of a small child to fit hiding places, grows back when a fight needs her, and burns demons with pink flame in a form of blood demon art that damages them and nobody else. It is one of the few genuinely defensive powers in the series.
Everything Tanjiro does is in service of turning her human again, which makes her less a passenger than the argument the story is having. Gotouge could have written a mascot. What he wrote is the exception that proves demons are not simply monsters, and the reason Muzan wants her found.
Spelling NEZUKO
NEZUKO is six letters and the Z is the useful one, rare enough to cut the field once it lands. Watch the middle: it is ZU, ず, not ZO or SU. Otakana wants the given name, since Kamado belongs to Tanjiro as well. Three clean beats, ne-zu-ko, one vowel per syllable and no long sounds to lose.
