Speed-o'-Sound Sonic is a genuine prodigy: trained at a hidden village, faster than the eye follows, and lethal enough to work as an assassin until Saitama swatted him in the middle of a job. He has considered Saitama his rival ever since. Saitama considers him a nuisance who keeps reappearing in the same green outfit.
Every encounter goes the same way. Sonic announces himself, demonstrates a technique, and loses to something humiliating and accidental rather than to a proper counter. The series uses him as a metronome for how far ahead Saitama is, and as one of its few characters who never learns a single thing from being wrong.
He is oddly likeable for all that. Sonic works alone, refuses to join the Hero Association or the monsters, and trains obsessively for a fight he will never win, which is closer to real dedication than most of the ranked heroes manage. ONE created him in the 2009 webcomic, and Yusuke Murata's redraw gave his speed the kind of panel layout that makes the joke land twice.
Spelling SONIC
SONIC is five letters and most people already know how to spell it, thanks to a blue hedgehog. That is the only help on offer, because the Japanese ソニック, sonikku, doubles a consonant English does not. The last letter is the one that goes wrong: it is a C, not a K. Five letters, two vowels, nothing doubled in SONIC.
