Yuta Okkotsu made a promise to Rika when they were children. She died in a traffic accident in front of him, and the promise held, so she came back as a cursed spirit attached to him and disposed of anyone who bothered him. By the time Gojo finds him he is suicidal, terrified of himself, and about to be executed by the jujutsu authorities.
Gojo enrols him instead, which is his answer to most problems. At Jujutsu High Yuta learns to treat Rika as a technique rather than a curse, and the sheer volume of energy she carries makes him a special grade in his first year. He also picks up swordsmanship and, briefly, the ability to copy other people's techniques.
Akutami serialised this story first. Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technique School ran in 2017 before the main manga began, was renamed Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and MAPPA released it as a film in 2021. Reading order and publication order disagree, and Yuta is the character that fact is built around.
Spelling YUTA
YUTA is four letters, the given name, and the short version of a longer romanisation: the Japanese vowel is long, so YUUTA is the form you will see on older subtitles. The family name is the interesting one and the game does not want it. Okkotsu carries a doubled K from the small tsu, which is the sort of trap that would ruin a seven-letter row.
