Zeke Yeager carries the Beast Titan, a seventeen-metre ape-like thing covered in fur, and he fights with it the way a crew works an artillery piece. He picks up rocks, judges the distance, and throws. Soldiers on horseback two hundred metres away come apart. The sequence where he first does this, in the third season, is where the Survey Corps learns that a titan can hold a plan.
The pitching is literal. Baseball is his one uncomplicated pleasure, and the show uses it the way it uses Levi's teacup, a small human habit hung on somebody who does appalling things. He can also command ordinary titans by shouting, an ability that belongs to his bloodline and reorganises every battlefield he walks onto.
Zeke is a strategist first. His proposed solution to the Eldian problem is the most disturbing thing anyone in the series suggests, precisely because it is arguable rather than mad. He is patient, funny in a tired way, and comfortable spending absolutely anybody. The fourth season pairs him with people who cannot decide whether he is an ally, which is exactly where he prefers to stand.
Spelling ZEKE
ZEKE is four letters and opens on the rarest letter in the game. That Z is worth everything: land it and almost nothing else in the dataset competes for the row. The Japanese comes from the German Sieg, meaning victory, which is where the alternative spelling Zieg came from. Official English went with the American nickname for Ezekiel instead. Two E's, one at each end.
