Hisoka Morow turns up at the Hunter Exam as an applicant who has already passed once and came back for the company. He kills candidates who bore him and spares the ones who might grow into something. Gon is the second kind. Hisoka gives him a badge, tells him to become interesting, and spends the next several arcs checking on his investment like a man watching fruit ripen.
His Nen is a Transmuter's, and both abilities sound like nothing. Bungee Gum has the properties of both rubber and gum, a line repeated so often it became the character's signature, and it lets him attach, pull, snap back and redirect almost anything. Texture Surprise disguises surfaces, which turns a playing card into wallpaper or a wound into unbroken skin. Simple tools, used by someone who plans several moves out.
He joined the Phantom Troupe by killing a member and taking the number, and he stayed only because Chrollo is a fight he wants. That is the whole of his loyalty. Togashi draws him as a jester with painted symbols on his face, a star and a teardrop, and the design has kept Hisoka near the top of every Hunter x Hunter popularity poll since 1998.
Spelling HISOKA
HISOKA is a real Japanese word before it is a name. 密か means secretly, quietly, on the sly, which is a heavy-handed choice for a character who hides what he is doing. Six letters, three vowels alternating cleanly, no long vowel and no doubled consonant anywhere. The only slip worth watching is the opening: HI, not HE.
