Killua Zoldyck comes from a mountain full of assassins outside Padokea, where the family has run a contract killing business for generations and the children are raised into it as a trade. He was fed poison to build tolerance and electrocuted until it stopped hurting. Then he walked out, took the Hunter Exam without particularly wanting a licence, and met Gon, which is the first thing he ever chose.
The electricity training pays off later. Godspeed converts his aura into current and runs it through his nervous system, so his body reacts before he has decided anything, and he moves at a speed the animation handles by simply not drawing the middle. Before that he fights with sharpened nails and a skateboard he refuses to give up, because he is also a twelve year old.
What makes him the fan favourite is the calculation. Killua is the one who counts exits, checks whether a fight is winnable, and pulls Gon out of rooms Gon would happily die in. He also assumes, for a long time, that he is the disposable half of the friendship. Togashi spends the Chimera Ant arc taking that assumption apart in front of him.
Spelling KILLUA
KILLUA is six letters with a double L that the Japanese never pronounces. The katakana reads ki-ru-a, three beats, one R. English swaps the R for an L, doubles it, and leaves you a spelling you cannot hear. The vowel run at the end, U then A, is the other place guesses die. Family name Zoldyck, but the row wants KILLUA.
